Metaverse, a One-Hit-Wonder?
It is not unbeknownst to people who have taken their time to scour the vast expanse of the internet of Metaverse’s existence, or at least it is discussed in message boards and forums, as well as social networking sites ever since the term was coined.
As all things are, there are people who are promoting its success, as they see it as the new age of the internet and technology, and thus will spark endless opportunities in its onboarding, and there are also those who are against it, given the fact that crypto, which is almost always exclusively tied to it, is currently receiving bad rap due to its detrimental effects to the environment, among other issues.
In the past few months, however, with the sudden rise in popularity and fall into pseudo-obscurity of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFT) as well as the technologies behind it, so does Metaverse’s relevance in the popular culture of the internet. It started by becoming a promise, then a meme, and ultimately being discussed sparingly. This begs the question, is Metaverse a one-hit-wonder?
The answer, from someone who has substantial experience in cryptocurrencies and related technologies, is of course, NO.
There had been multiple instances where critics had predicted cryptocurrency’s death, but hundreds of times they are disproven.
The same could be said for Metaverse since current technologies in entertainment, gaming, and even remote ones like beauty suggest an alternate reality setting, where people could enjoy an escape to their mundane reality by logging in to a virtual reality setting. Metaverse provides all of these, with the benefit of profit.
It’s normal for something so ahead of its time to receive bad reviews from people. To cite an example, QR codes had been existing since the 90s and weren’t actively pushed to public use until the 2010s, when they failed miserably. Nowadays, QRs almost always available for use.
Metaverse could be experiencing the same thing nowadays, then again, only time will tell.
