Cryptocurrency has come a long way since its inception and popularization, now ever-growing and offering multitudes of benefits to people who are willing. However, these benefits and utilization come at a cost — a large carbon footprint. There had been multiple attempts at reducing this detrimental attribute over the years, but none are so far efficient enough to be done on a larger scale.

Not until CUDOS apparently, a blockchain platform that aims not only to offer decentralized cloud computing as an alternative to the slow and grueling proof-of-work system we have today at the base of every network, but a massive do-over on the systems that power these networks to make them more efficient, and less damaging to the environment.

One of the major sources of the crypto industry’s carbon footprint is the energy consumption required for processing transactions within the blockchain. Traditional methods use specialized hardware that requires a lot of energy to operate. This results in high electricity costs, which in turn contributes to the carbon footprint of the industry. CUDOS solves this problem by using idle computing resources, such as those found in smartphones, laptops, and servers, to process transactions, by means of pooling these sources and centralizing them in the cloud. This not only reduces energy consumption but also eliminates the need for specialized hardware.

Another advantage of CUDOS is that it incentivizes users to contribute computing resources by involving the people in the process, something that most enterprises in the cryptocurrency industry fail to consider even nowadays, and then paying them for their contributions. This creates a decentralized model of computing resources, that CUDOS is currently using for multitudes of purposes, which is great because their enterprise, when done this way from the bottom up, opens multiple points of opportunity that are not solely tied to “decentralized cloud computing”, and of course, this saves on carbon emissions as well.

All in all, I believe CUDOS has the potential to change the environmental impact of the cryptocurrency industry for the better by reducing its carbon footprint and by changing the status quo in the industry, through multiple facets. In doing so, CUDOS is inadvertently creating a more equitable and sustainable future for the industry, while opening a wider array of opportunities for its users to benefit from.
